RESEARCH SCIENTIST 2, The Climate Project, to work with Professor Elsa Olivetti and Climate Headquarters; join a team working on advanced methods for leveraging large language models and text extraction tools to develop a database for faculty interests in climate and sustainability at MIT; develop a Climate Knowledge bank to centralize climate-related knowledge and faculty research expertise as well as broad discovery and hypothesis development for climate and sustainability solutions. The purpose of the latter initiative is to create a structured repository that allows for efficient extraction of underrepresented research areas, sustainability challenges and emerging clusters of innovation. The database will enable dynamic matching of faculty expertise to climate-related research needs. This role involves a deep dive into the development of the software infrastructure to support these efforts, maintaining this infrastructure, building teams and doing the research to execute on what is described above. And then to execute on elements of that strategy relevant to the individual’s interests and background. Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in scientific or engineering discipline; a minimum of four years of experience, which may include experience gained as a graduate student, in a research environment; postdoctoral experience in interdisciplinary domain; expertise in natural language processing and machine learning; knowledge in the physics and chemistry; expertise and fluency in broad set of programming languages, and expertise in database development; strong ethic in good coding practice and documentation; ability to conduct academic research individually and in collaboration; strong communication skills for conveying technical concepts across different areas of expertise; and strong publication record in relevant domains. PREFERRED: Knowledge and experience working with climate and sustainability; expertise in image and graph processing; expertise in computational efficiency to improve coding infrastructure; experience leading interdisciplinary teams; and proficiency with data visualization tools.
