Position will enhance capabilities at University of Texas at Dallas and link to a successful hydrogeology research Team at Michigan State University. These individuals would work with a vibrant team of faculty, postdocs and graduate students to conduct integrated hydrologic modeling efforts investigating climate, land use, and water resources at large basin scales. This team seeks to develop and improve models to predict the effects of changes in land use and climate on hydrology, and to apply models to better understand how to improve sustainability of land use practices and adapt to future changes. Our highly interdisciplinary research is conducted in collaboration with researchers at multiple universities nationwide.
Possible projects include:
● Quantifying sustainable irrigation in the Central Valley of the US, incorporating novel irrigation schemes and detailed groundwater models. Simulate the consequences of changing policies, evaluate how climate change may affect state-mandated management goals.
● Simulating Amazon Basin hydrology, incorporating data from both widely-available sources as well as unique datasets from local collaborators. This may include field data collection and hydrogeophysics.
● Building CONUS -scale simulations of integrated surface and groundwater resources. These models could then be used to investigate a variety of water resources, sustainability, land use, and climate change questions.
● Apply novel AI-driven sub-grid modeling to simulate fine-scale processes in landscape models. These may include field efforts using in-situ data collection or rely on data synthesis including LIDAR and high resolution remote sensing.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in field directly related to research- Two (2) years of experience/expertise performing research relating to a specified field of study- Or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience totaling at least eight years.
Preferred Education and Experience:
+ Ph.D.
+ Expertise in programming in a language such as Python, MATLAB , R, or FORTRAN .
+ Willingness to learn and use new languages.
+ Prior hydrologic modeling experience.
+ Familiarity with machine learning, GIS , remote sensing, and spatial data analysis
+ Big-data experience is a plus.
+ Applicants with expertise in hydrogeophysics are also encouraged to apply.
