Research Scientist

SUMMARY

Provides essential support to the Principal Investigator (PI) and gives scientific input in the field of low-level blast environment characterization. Oversees field research data collection activities conducted at various military and law enforcement training settings.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in all aspects of research to include study design and overseeing, collecting, managing, processing, analyzing, and reporting data. Establishes and maintains relationships with volunteer cohort leadership and other collaborators. Serves as a liaison between research output and stakeholders. Manages human subjects protocol documentation and regulatory files. Maintains regular and punctual attendance. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or related field with relevant work experience (PhD preferred). Experience using SAS, SPSS, Matlab, C, C+, C++, Java or other programming/statistical language. Must be able to obtain Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) clearance. Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks (U.S. citizenship required).

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Experience in a blast research setting actively involved in study design, or equivalent experience a plus. Military experience is a plus. Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrates ability to prioritize, organize, problem-solve, and coordinate daily activities to support effective improvement in individual patients. Have strong leadership/management skills and be responsible for directing and guiding research staff and study participants. Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to use basic office automation and information management equipment and programs (i.e., word processing, database management, email, etc.). Communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner with research staff and study participants.  Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.  Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
