Who we are
The Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/) (VMBS) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of vet erinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major vet erinary educational, medical, and research center. Today, we are one of the largest schools of vet erinary medicine in the United States, training nearly 600 Doctor of Vet erinary Medicine students each year. What we want
The Research Scientist, under direction, conducts independent research in the field of Aryl hydrocarbon Receptor biology, hepatology and toxicology. Utilizes techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry and multiomics to design and perform experiments. Writes research papers, articles, publications, and will participate in scientific conferences for research presentations. May collaborate with other researchers and/or faculty to initiate and perform novel research projects and grant applications.

Required Education and Experience
+ PhD in a related field
+ Six years of related experience in a specialized and relevant field of research
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Advance knowledge in molecular biology, pharmacology, and toxicology
+ Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions or conclusions
+ Ability to compile and analyze data
+ Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals, agencies, and other entities to encourage cooperative strategies or develop information and interpret findings
+ Excellent verbal and written skills in order to prepare technical and research papers, grant applications, and publish and communicate findings to peers and at conferences.
+ Advanced working knowledge of computers to store, process and analyze data
+ Must be detail oriented
+ Ability to handle stressful situations and meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
+ Research: Develops and implements strategic goals for the lab and presents to Principal Investigator. Develops and oversees new projects to include but not limited to program analysis and possible sources of potential sponsored funding. Independently conducts research projects, constructs tests or assist with construction of tests, and collaborates with other researchers. Collects data and conducts analyses by interpreting, drawing conclusions and documenting the data. Conducts literature searches in order to stay current with ongoing research in a specific field or project. Perform routine laboratory tasks such as preparing laboratory for annual inspections, managing transgenic mice colonies, ordering and perform related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.
+ Mentoring/Supervision: Supervises laboratory personnel. Conducts hiring, terminating, training, conducting performance evaluations, disciplining, delegating, and monitoring employee’s work.
+ Publications/Presentations: Compiles data and prepares research manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals. Present research results to other researchers, committees, faculty, and at scientific meetings.
+ Other Duties: May apply for grants or contracts. May have teaching responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
