Job Summary
The Gene and Cell Therapy Institute (GCTI) is a newly created system-wide Institute at Mass General Brigham (MGB) built to support the translation of MGB’s world-class research into gene and cell therapies. The Institute differentiates itself by providing a foundation of gene and cell therapy expertise, manufacturing capabilities, and regulatory support to harness the exceptional clinician scientists, research groups, and large and unique patient population that comprise the MGB hospital system to advance medicine.We are seeking a motivated and skilled Core Manager to join our RNA Therapeutics Core team and participate in the development of novel RNA-based medicines and technologies. The candidate who fills this role will oversee a small team of skilled scientists and technicians and manage day-to-day Core and laboratory operations. Specific duties include managing a small team of lab personnel, promoting a positive work environment through occasional team building activities, interfacing with academic and industry Core customers, fulfilling orders, ensuring accurate and complete record-keeping and sample tracking, and overseeing raw material supply and access.
The successful candidate will have laboratory management experience, personnel management experience, and significant expertise in molecular biology. They would be detail-oriented and organized, a proficient multitasker, an active contributor to a positive work environment, and eager to work as part of a team. Optionally, the ideal candidate would have expertise managing a GMP manufacturing facility or operating in a GMP environment.
Qualifications
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage one or more direct reports, assign tasks, and ensure high quality and timely execution of work
Oversee development of new processes for RNA synthesis and purification with guidance from PI, and guide implementation of these processes on automation platforms
Facilitate the setup of a sample intake and tracking system, and manage the system to initiate and fulfill synthesis projects for external parties; communicate with external parties as needed
Manage the Core budget and business plan; track costs and revenues
Manage consumables supply and stocks, equipment maintenance contracts
Assist with wet lab work as needed until technical resources are in place
Oversee generation of high quality circular RNA and mRNA
Enforce standard lab safety precautions and proper personal protective equipment usage; complete requisite trainings as appropriate
Participate in lab meetings and generate ideas for improving efficiency and productivity in the lab’s operations
Communicate effectively with the team, discuss progress, and share operational data with supervisors
