UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits, and natural beauty. **The Division of Arts has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2 (Designer) to join their team.** **POSITION PURPOSE** We are looking for a collaborative and research-oriented Designer to join the SECURE West Regional Hub located at the University of Washington. You will also collaborate and coordinate within the SECURE National Team. As mandated in the "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022," the SECURE Center, a collaboration between nine institutions of higher education, will apply a co-design approach to serve as a clearinghouse for information to empower the research community to identify and mitigate threats that pose risks to the U.S. research enterprise. The regional Designer position will be responsible for (a) leading and contributing to activities within the regional co-design hub, (b) leading and contributing to the planning and execution of design activities, and (c) collaborating and coordinating with other regional hubs. To be successful in this role you will need to have a breadth of knowledge in user research and participatory design methods, a collaborative team-oriented nature, and strong communication skills. Domain knowledge in research security, academia, or government is a plus but is not required. This position may also include opportunities to contribute to other topically and methodologically related funded research projects in the areas of design, security, privacy, trust, collaboration, and/or complex large-scale societal issues such research security and integrity. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** User Research & Insights (10%) + Gather, analyze, and synthesize user insights and feedback to inform design requirements and design activities + Ensure that user and stakeholder needs, pain points, and desires are deeply understood and integrated into the design software products, services, and other outcomes. + Use qualitative and/or quantitative data to synthesize design recommendations, guide decision-making, and validate design concepts.Facilitation & Stakeholder Engagement (10%) + Organize and lead design workshops, ideation sessions, and collaborative events involving internal teams, stakeholders + Foster strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, ensuring their active participation and meaningful contribution throughout the design process. + Create an inclusive environment where all voices are heard, especially those of marginalized or underrepresented groups.Project Management (10%) + Manage design projects from concept to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. + Develop project plans, set milestones, and track progress, while maintaining flexibility to adapt to changing needs and feedback. + Communicate project status, insights, and outcomes to stakeholders and senior leadership.Design & Development (10%) + Work closely with the project team to translate design outcomes into actionable design specifications, prototypes, and final products. + Oversee the iterative design process, ensuring that prototypes are tested with users and refined based on feedback. + Ensure that the final design solutions align with strategic objectives.Leadership (5%) + Champion the design approach across the project team, advocating for user-centered, participatory, and collaborative design processes.Continuous Improvement (5%) + Evaluate the effectiveness of co-design processes and make recommendations for continuous improvement. + Share learnings and insights with the broader organization to promote a culture of innovation and collaboration.Communication and dissemination (10%) + Contribute to the documentation and dissemination of design work to relevant stakeholders, ranging from internal team communications to public-facing communications. + Document and translate insights from our process and outcomes in ways that can inform the broader research communities through research publications and other formats, such as exhibitions, case studies, and public-facing websites.Other responsibilities and opportunities (20%) + Given the complex and dynamic nature of this work, there will likely be other work areas falling with the categories outlined above, such as facilitating group ideation sessions, conducting literature reviews, or evaluating design concepts and prototypes with users and stakeholders.Additional Responsibilities may include (20%) + Community and Stakeholder Engagement, such as building and maintain relationships with stakeholders, collaborators, and partner organizations. + Stakeholder Database and Knowledge Management, such as managing a database of stakeholders, partners, and study participants. + Stakeholder Event Management and Meeting Logistics, such as scheduling workshops, interviews, and other engagements with stakeholders, team calendar management, and meeting management. + Team Administration, such as onboarding and training new team members. + Operational Implementation, Collaboration Management, and Performance Monitoring, such as project management and overseeing daily operations, and managing project report and internal/external communications with stakeholders. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** + Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, and/or a related field and two year of relevant experience or Equivalent combination of education/experience. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS** + A Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, and/or a related field is preferred but not required. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
