JOB DESCRIPTION:
Conducts innovative scientific investigation by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB. Committed to the discovery of new innovative biomedical and health services knowledge leading to increasingly effective and accessible health care. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques and procedures while using judgment when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
This position will assist with the performance of specific tasks in the Basic and Translational Research Division laboratory of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This will include the development of Organ-on-a-chip (OOC) and reproductive tissue organoids for healthy and various pregnancy disorders, testing new drugs using these model systems, and physiologic validation of OOC models in animal model experimentations in reproductive biology. Specific tasks will involve but are not limited to:
Conduct placental cell culture. Conduct studies related to placental pathologies of preeclampsia. Develop biomarkers. Developing research strategies to understand tauopathies in the placenta. Testing drugs to reverse pathological placental issues. Conducting high throughput studies and analyze data. Assist junior faculty members and train graduate and post-graduate fellows in the lab.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MS or PhD degree with a minimum of 2 years post-doctoral training in relevant areas like cell and molecular biology, routine experimental approaches in the lab.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. with 2 years of post-doctoral experience and four years of experience as an independent scientist. The candidate should have strong publication records in the relevant areas. Knowledge in drug discovery, testing and validation are also preferred.
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
