The principal responsibility of the Research Scientist III, Analytical Development is method development and the analysis of compounds. The Research Scientist III is expected to demonstrate expertise in both the theoretical and practical aspects of analytical chemistry.

Essential job duties Subject matter expert for testing, troubleshooting and complex problems Write analytical method procedures to establish format Write analytical validation reports Process samples with the standard procedures effectively and under minimal supervision. Analyze experimental data for validity Submit reports of analytical testing Perform data review. Provide corrections and good documentation coaching Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope Contribute to the completion of routine technical tasks Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting data sets and providing summaries Conduct electronic searches for applicable methods and related procedures Manage workload and time to perform multiple projects effectively, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed on a timely basis Maintain a detailed and accurate recording of activities and results Contribute to the review of OOS and deviations Execute, author and review protocols, report quality investigations, change controls and data summaries. Understand and use basic risk assessment and root cause tools Track and trend data as applicable Lead departmental projects Participate in cross-functional teams Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or service Contribute to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts Represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects Follow responsible actions regarding chemical disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices Participate in self-development activities and training of others Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business Education, experience, certification and licensures Required

·       Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field
·       Minimum 5-8 years’ relevant experience

OR

·       Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field
·       Minimum 3-6 years’ relevant experience

OR

·       Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field
·       Minimum 0-3 years’ relevant experience

Knowledge, skills and abilities Ability to assimilate previously gained knowledge and experience and apply those concepts, techniques, etc. to new and related project areas Expertise in the analysis of compounds using a range of analytical techniques Ability to understand and use basic risk assessment and root cause tools Chemical Hygiene training Basic understanding of ALCOA Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community Ability to give presentations and/or write articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format Ability to effectively present information to coworkers, management, and/or public groups Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables Physical requirements

Pay Range: $77,000

Education, experience, location and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
