Research Scientist in the Division of Engineering [Mechanical Engineering] - Dr. Maryam AlNahyan
New York University
The AlNahyan Research Group in the Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit for a research scientist position in the areas of materials science, electrochemistry, and interdisciplinary engineering with interests in interfacial electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, and manipulation of electrochemical active sites and porosities for improved performances. The AlNahyan research group focuses on the development of advanced materials and prototypes. The group’s interest lies in studying the behavior of materials at the atomic level to improve the performance of energy conversion devices. The group aims to understand how these materials interact and change over time, particularly at the interface between different substances. This knowledge is then used to develop new processes and materials for various applications, such as batteries, sustainable fuel production (Hydrogen production), and water treatment.
The Research Scientist will lead a project focused on developing a reliable nanomaterial technology that offers high efficiency, large scalable capacity, and optimal mechanical strength. The role involves the design, synthesis, and characterization of nanomaterials using advanced techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and porosity analysis. Additional responsibilities include preparing manuscripts, reviewing articles, drafting grant proposals, supervising the laboratory, and mentoring junior researchers, if any. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to work on individualized projects under the guidance of Dr. Maryam AlNahyan, ensuring a well-rounded research experience.
Applicants must have a PhD in Interdisciplinary Engineering/ Chemical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Material Science/ Chemistry or a related field.
Priority will be given to candidates with a background in the following primary and secondary areas of expertise:
+ Experimental research experience related to materials fabrication and characterization, such as Graphene, Nanomaterials; Thorough working experience and understanding of various morphological characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, raman spectroscopy, gas adsorption for porosity analysis, etc.
+ Device design experience related to prototyping and testing of electrochemical conversion devices.
+ Experimental research experience in energy storage, electrolysis, and electrochemical conversion devices; Thorough working experience and understanding of various electrochemical techniques and utilizing them for advanced characterization of electrode/ electrolyte interfaces, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, chronomaperometry, etc.
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcript of degree, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests, and at least 2 letters of recommendation, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Dr. Maryam AlNahyan at msa9032@nyu.edu.
