In this role you will work on-site in Princeton, NJ. The position is a fulltime position for at least 3 months and remote work is not available.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Summer Intern with knowledge of using large language models for analyzing images on edge infrastructure, with background in fine-tuning small language/vision models. The internship will focus on the development an intelligent system on Siemens Industrial Edge platform that focuses on extracting information from images that are relevant for smart manufacturing. This internship will provide you an opportunity to contribute to and experience the excitement and challenges of industrial research. During this internship, you will experience the practicality and challenges of industrial research and be part of a world class team. This internship position is an on-site full-time role in Princeton, NJ for the summer of 2025. Due to the nature of the internship, and access to hardware, a remote internship will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Develop demonstrators to leverage the Siemens Infrastructure and perform experiments with images from manufacturing domain.Collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in the fields of edge computing and intelligent systems using large language models.Apply latest advancements in small language models / vision modelsReview available academic literature to create an overview about existing approaches and results, as well as directions in academic researchSelect a subset of existing approaches and devise a strategy to create a Proof of Concept to allow further assessment of feasibility for automation Present and discuss results within the research team.Document the findings, architecture, results as a publishable scientific paper.

Education and Experience

Required: Enrolled in Computer science or engineering bachelors /masters program with an accredited University.Preferred: Enrolled in a PhD program with the background in artificial intelligence, computer science, or a related field

Basic Qualifications

Project examples on using language models and fine-tuning them for a dedicated use-casesProgramming/scripting skills in Python programming language is requiredExperience with fine tuning LLMs and training/testing ML modelsExperience with vision language modelsBasic understanding of transformer-based models, attention mechanisms and latest LLM architectures

Preferred Skills

Experience with RAG FrameworksExperience with Linux and command linesExperience with deploying and serving LLMsExperience in Quantization Aware Training (QAT)Experience in Quantization techniques (for vision-based models and LLMs)Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English with an excellent problem-solving skills and can-do attitude Drive and motivation for career development and open to take responsibilities for challenging tasksAbility to quickly learn now technologies and frameworks

Work setting

This is an on-site internship position and required the person to be in the United States of America and hold valid work permit for employment in the US.
