Research Scientist Senior
**Description** SAIC is hiring a **Research Scientist Sr** for a 100% remote position supporting the Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) research and development program. This role is 100% remote. **Job Duties:** Contribute to the NRL METOC R&D program by creating software to support the development of Navy Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and Aerosol models to support Navy and Marine Corps operational planning and mission execution around the world. **Job Duties:** NEP-OS (COAMPS-OS) MSG & JAVA GUI - Develop and implement new NEP-OS coding, maintain software stability, and design functionality to meet the requirements for the NEP-OS (formerly COAMPS-OS) MSG and JAVA GUI for operational use by FNMOC Monterey, FNMOC Stennis, NRL-MRY, NRL-DC, NIWC, and additional customers. NAAPS Project - Contribute to the ongoing NAAPS Aerosol model development. HELCAP Aerosol Project - Contribute to developing the COAMPS High Energy laser (HEL) prediction tool. ESCAPE GeoIPS (Surratt) - Develop a portable, highly modular, reusable, object-oriented framework for applying advanced algorithms to a wide variety of METOC data including, but not limited to, geostationary and low earth orbit METOC sensors, numerical weather prediction (NWP) model output, and in-situ METOC observations (e.g. Unmanned Aerial Systems). QA/QC TCWeb - Contribute to developing a new TCWeb Graphical User Interface (GUI). - Develop a combining API for multiple applications and simplify the deployment methods. MetMF Project - Contribute to developing the Meteorological Mobile Facility [Replacement] Next Generation, METMF[R]. - Develop the NEXGEN system to use tactical scale atmospheric model component COAMPS as the basis for its forecasting system. Contribute to system design work to include development, automation, simplification, and computational streamlining for periodic system upgrades. **Qualifications** **Required Education and Experience:** + Bachelors degree and nine (9) years of experience; Masters degree an seven (7) years of experience. **Required Security Clearance:** + Must have an active Secret Clearance (US citizen required). **Required Skills:** 10+ years of experience with: + Working with Navy NWP and aerosol models (COAMPS, COAMPS-OS, NAAPS, NCOM, WW3, & SWAN). + Knowledge of FORTRAN, C, C++, CYLC, Javascript, NET CDF coding. + Knowledge of Atlassian, Git/GitHub. + DoD High Performance Computing Systems. + Navy and DoD Security Technical Implementation guide (STIG). Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
