**The UW** **_Department of Ophthalmology_** **has an outstanding opportunity for a** **_Temporary_** **Research Study Assistant** **to join their team!**
The Research Study Assistant will provide support for clinical and translational research in ocular oncology, including studies on uveal melanoma and pediatric retinoblastoma. The assistant will focus on developing a Tumor Registry, supporting retrospective case reports, and assisting in the creation of an image database for machine learning. This position involves a combination of data collection, research coordination, and participant interaction under general supervision.
**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
Medical Records Review and Tumor Registry Development (35%)
• Extract and compile clinical data from patient medical records according to study protocols.
• Develop and maintain an organized Tumor Registry database.
• Ensure data confidentiality and integrity in compliance with research guidelines.
Research Data and Case-Series Development (30%)
• Support the analysis of research data to create case-series reports on ocular tumors.
• Conduct literature reviews to provide context and relevance to data analysis.
• Assist in drafting research reports and study summaries.
Image Database and Machine Learning Support (20%)
• Assist in the development of an image repository for machine learning projects.
• Organize and catalog digital images related to ocular tumors.
• Collaborate with research team members to prepare data for algorithm development.
Participant Interaction and Study Coordination (10%)
• Explain study procedures and protocols to research participants.
• Obtain informed consent and respond to participant questions under established guidelines.
• Coordinate study schedules, including participant visits and research meetings.
Administrative Support (5%)
• Maintain study records, protocols, and data collection tools.
• Order and track inventory of research supplies.
• Assist with the onboarding of new research staff and trainees.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**
• Two years of college-level coursework in a relevant field AND one year of appropriate experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
**DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:**
• Experience working with human subjects in a research setting.
• Familiarity with medical records review and data entry.
• Knowledge of data collection and statistical tools.
• Interest in biomedical research, particularly in ocular oncology.
