**The Department of Linguistics has an outstanding opportunity for a** **_Temporary_** **Research Study Coordinator 1 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv) to join their team.**
The Linguistics Department at the University of Washington hosts a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to the study of language as a natural phenomenon. It focuses on grammar, the social context of language variation, the physics and perception of speech sounds, the properties of language evolution, language acquisition and bilingualism, and the automated processing of speech and language by computers. Its 18 faculty members and five staff members serve 180 undergraduate majors, a total of 53 ASL and Linguistics minors, 126 graduate students, and a large number of non-majors enrolled in courses. The department aims to educate students and the public on the structure and use of language, and the significance of invariant characteristics and systematic variation in languages.
This Research Study Coordinator position will support the work done in Professor Ferjan Ramírez’s Language Processing and Development (LDP) Lab ( https://sites.uw.edu/ldplab/ ) by assisting in a new research study involving Spanish/English speaking families with infants residing in the Miami metropolitan area. This Research Study Coordinator will work locally in Seattle to oversee data collection on the ground and in regular communication with the Miami, FL, team. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Recruiting, scheduling, and interacting with participating families according to research protocol entrance criteria; conducting interviews according to established protocol.
+ Review and explain consent forms, questionnaires, and surveys with prospective subjects.
+ Assist in the orientation of new participants; coordinating participant information.
+ Answer participants’ questions regarding study protocol; notify appropriate research personnel regarding problems or complications reported by subjects.
+ Maintain confidentiality of subject records; comply with human subject protocols.
+ Data collection and management
+ Gather, record, organize, transcribe, and verify the accuracy of research study data; prepare data for computer input; manage research database.
+ Perform related duties as required. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Two years of college-level coursework in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ BA in linguistics, speech and hearing sciences, early childhood, maternal and child health, psychology, nursing or similar.
+ Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
+ Experience working with infants and their parents in research or clinical settings.
+ Experience working with parents over Zoom (or similar platforms).
+ Experience with Language Environment Analysis (LENA) technology.
+ Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
