Research Support Specialist
Research Support Specialist **Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume)** : Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field in the sciences (foreign equivalent or higher). Technical knowledge as evidenced by coursework in Biochemistry and/or Cell Biology. Experience in a research laboratory. Familiarity with cell biology laboratory procedures. Experience working with tissue culture. Experience with mouse husbandry and handling. **Preferred Qualifications:** Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field in the sciences. Experience with histology and or immunohistochemistry. Experience with molecular cloning. Experience with microscopy. Experience with basic biochemistry techniques such as western blotting, ELISA, nucleic acid extraction and RT-PCR. **Brief Description of Duties** : The Research Technician level II position will support the research program of Dr. Dada Pisconti in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Research projects in the Pisconti lab involve maintaining mouse colonies, preparing and maintaining primary muscle stem cells and cell lines, performing basic biochemistry assays such as western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. The successful candidate will both perform these assays and assist other lab members in performing them. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, and exercise strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. The Research Technician will have experience and the ability to work independently and as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. + Provide technical laboratory support to the PI and other lab members for advanced research activities. + Assist Principal Investigator with ordering lab supplies, maintaining compliance with environmental health and safety procedures, and routine maintenance of lab instruments. + Participate in weekly lab meetings. + Perform literature searches, staying current in the field by reading and discussing literature and experimental results with the PI. + Other duties as assigned. **Special Notes:** The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
