Through this community of healers, scientists, and scholars, Rutgers is equipped as never before to transform lives. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Psychiatric Health & Genomics (CPHG), the Research Teaching Specialist II (“Study Rater”) is responsible for the conduct of representative studies of persons with psychiatric illness and those with no mental health diagnosis, including recruitment and enrollment of participants from diverse ethnic communities and the Rutgers University catchment area through administration of screening and clinical diagnostic instruments and surveys. Current funded research studies focus on the enrollment of minorities under-represented in research, in particular those of Latinx and African ancestry.

Among the key duties of this position are the following: Participates as part of the enrollment team to establish diagnostic validity and reliability standards for the use of psychiatric diagnostic instruments, including the Diagnostic Instrument for Psychosis and Affective Disorders (DIPAD). Performs semi-structured diagnostic interviews relevant to ongoing investigatory activities of the CPHG, independently or as assigned. Independently follows research protocols including administering study consent, study diagnostic instruments, providing compensation to participants and recording all data in the study database. Assists with the instructing and training of lower-level study raters, recruiters and phlebotomists to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions. Is responsible for maintenance, filing and other administrative duties for participants enrolled, consistent with research protocols. Assists with financial management as it relates to study participation (i.e. subject compensation and necessary documentation).
