The Research Technician will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity.  In general, they will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.

Responsibilities Design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments involving molecular biology, zebrafish animal models, and cell lines with mentorship from post-doctoral fellows and Dr. InscoThink independently and creatively while working collaboratively on our teamMaintain detailed and understandable lab notebooksInterpret and discuss research findings informally and formally in lab meetings and other scientific meetings at DFCI, if desiredDevelop figures to depict research findings, make posters, and write research findings in manuscript formFeed zebrafish populations the proper type and amount of food, depending on life stage and experimental applicationMaintain live invertebrate cultures for feeding larval fishPerform daily oversight and operation of aquaculture systems and animal health and communicates any improvement opportunities to managersSupport the fish facility through stable line husbandry and genotypingPerform and record water quality testingSupport Insco Lab researchers by contributing to zebrafish experiments via spawning or making tumor observationsCoordinate with facilities and vendors during our ongoing facility refurbishmentCollaborate and coordinate with Look Lab representative to execute fish Qualifications

Accomplished and motivated candidates who have attained a B.S or B.A in the biology or biomedical sciences are encouraged to apply.

 

Clear thinking, writing, and communication skills are a must.

 

Technical skills in molecular biology or laboratory animal model work are a plus, but not required.

 

A record of scientific accomplishment as shown by a senior thesis or time in a lab with authorship on a peer-reviewed original research paper(s) is valued.

 

Skillful organization and ability to see tasks through to completion is required. A two-year commitment is required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.Ability to work within a team environment.
