We currently have twelve faculty members working in the fields of cryo-electron microscopy, NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and biochemistry. This laboratory technician position requires a B.S. degree plus at least one year of experience in protein expression and purification and related skills.

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.

Conducting and managing laboratory experiments. Manage multiple research projects concurrently using techniques such as PCR, DNA cloning, sample preparation for electron microscopy, and cryo-EM data collection/analysis. Work together with PI or independently to perform complex laboratory work and technical analysis. Troubleshoot technical problems and find suitable experimental solutions or design new procedures to circumvent problems.

The applicant should be highly motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented, be able to prioritize multiple tasks, and will be encouraged to work independently. Strong interpersonal skills and judgment is essential. The successful applicant should have some experience in molecular biology includingPCR, cloning, SDS-PAGE, fluorescent imaging, and cell culture. Experience in cryo-EM (electron microscopy, FIB milling) and proficient computer skills (Linux, python, scripting) are highly desired but not essential. Most of all we are looking for applicants that are motivated to learn novel technologies, take on new challenges, and to develop innovative techniques and methods.

The successful candidate will work with other lab members to conduct cell culture, molecular and cellular biology (cloning, genetic manipulation of singe-cell system), immunofluorescence-labelling, and cryo-electron tomography. Organization of lab space, coordination with other lab members for ordering and stocks, and presentation of data at lab meetings are essential. The candidate will assist the PI with experimental design, implementation of novel strategies/procedures, and manuscript preparation for publication, including figures and writing.
