What We Want
The Research Technician I will, under general supervision, perform entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. The selected candidate will join a new research lab focused on characterizing and targeting acute inflammation following spinal cord injury and the development of three-dimensional imaging strategies. Major techniques in the lab will include rodent surgeries, flow cytometry, histology, behavioral analyses, tissue clearing and light sheet microscopy. The primary duties of the Research Technician I will include animal husbandry and colony management, animal surgeries, postoperative care, and histology. Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Schedule: May work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
Required Education and Experience:
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Two years of related experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Ability to lift moderately heavy objects
+ Strong track record of organizational, written, and oral communication skills
+ Detail-oriented, independent, and have excellent interpersonal skills
+ Proficient at basic computer skills
+ Ability to exert heavy force
+ Ability to lift medium weight objects
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s in biology, biomedical sciences, neuroscience or related field
+ Previous experience working in a biological sciences or neurosciences lab strongly preferred
+ Experience with small animal surgeries and/or colony management strongly preferred
Responsibilities:
+ Surgery: Perform small animal surgeries including spinal cord injuries. Perform post-operative care for mice with spinal cord injury including bladder care.
+ Animal Husbandry: Assist in managing mouse colonies including breeding, genotyping, and record keeping. Assist senior staff members in conducting experiments and consults in developing procedures.
+ Research: Perform histology including tissue collection, sectioning, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, and image analysis. Collect samples and measurement data from experiments. Perform other research duties as assigned.
+ Behavioral Testing: Perform behavioral analyses including functional motor tests in mice.
+ Preparation: Prepare reagents and buffers. Maintain general lab supplies. Assemble and operate technical equipment.
+ Record Keeping: Collect and compile data. Maintain experimental/research data and summarization of data.
