Job Title Research Technician I Agency Texas A&M University - Kingsville Department Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Kingsville, Texas Job Type Temporary/Casual Staff (Fixed Term) Job Description Job Summary The Research Technician I (Herbst Internship) position is a 3-month study on non-game wildlife species in Texas. The intern will study Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus 2 (RHDV2) in Davis Mountain cottontails. Fieldwork will be conducted under the direction of graduate students. The intern will create a research poster and present it at the next Texas Chapter of the Wildlife Society meeting. The successful applicant must be an undergraduate from a university within Texas. This position is based in Kingsville, Texas with required travel to the Davis Mountains in western Texas, and will run from approximately mid- May to mid-August. Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Collects field data on Davis Mountain cottontails and RHDV2 in western Texas. · May assist with study of RHDV2 in captive eastern cottontails · Records data in datasets. Analyzes data with the help of PIs, and creates graphs and tables to communicate results. · Operates field and lab technical equipment, e.g., GPS units. · Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience – Two years of related experience. Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Physical Requirements – Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force.
