Job Summary
 

The University of Chicago Medicine Recovery and Empowerment After Community Trauma (REACT) Clinic is an interdisciplinary, pediatric healthcare model that provides psychological and psychiatric trauma-informed assessment, social work-focused case management, and treatment. The REACT Clinic is the only SAMHSA-funded clinic in the US that provides Black youth, within the Chicago metropolitan area, with free, accessible, high-quality, anti-racist, structurally and culturally responsive, strengths-based, interdisciplinary care to specifically address the effects of community violence and trauma. The primary goal of the REACT Clinic is to conduct a trauma-informed interdisciplinary clinical and needs assessment and provide linkage to care so that families can continue to receive mental health services.

We are recruiting a Research Assistant to lead multiple aspects of the mission and aims of the REACT Clinic study. This includes subject/family recruitment; conducting focus groups, and dyadic (parent-teen) interviews; co-facilitating family advisory board; data entry and analysis; tool development/surveys; writing and/or editing manuscripts and presenting research. Works alongside other research personnel to help manage the day-to-day processes of the study activities. Needs limited direction, but can work as a team. Collects, records, and analyzes data. Conducts literature reviews. Participates in report writing and manuscripts. Ensures compliance with institutional (IRB), state, and federal regulatory policies. Works directly with research subjects on a daily or weekly basis. Able to attend conferences to present individual research. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in and commitment to serving urban African American or ethnic minority populations living in low-resourced communities.

Responsibilities

Responsible for all aspects of research projects, including study recruitment and retention, participant screening and enrollment, data entry, and study-related communications among key personnel and participants.

Developing and disseminating study-specific advertisements, ensuring monthly recruiting and pacing goals are met.

Screening and scheduling study participants.

Conducting telephone and video-conferencing interviews with study applicants for eligibility determination and follow-up assessments.

Provides administrative support (i.e. petty cash distribution, equipment inventory and maintenance, scientific literature reviews, etc.) and maintains detailed records of study and lab standard operating procedures.

Assists in development of data tables, graphs and charts and preparation of material for presentation.

Conduct screenings and participant interviews as needed, ensure database management, entry and verification of measures not obtained by computer, supervise and schedule sessions, perform clinical interviews as needed, and assist the lab manager on regulatory paperwork, scheduling and management of all disbursements and receipts.

Managing study supply inventory and ordering.

Creating subject mailings for materials related to their participation in the trial, including study medications and saliva drug screens.

Collects and enters data. Assists in analysis of data and with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

Complies with institution, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

Provides routine or standardized laboratory duties by collecting data in support of research projects under direct supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
