Directs, operates, and maintains the institution’s research vessel and crew in support of the institution’s educational and research activities. Assists research staff and educators in planning and executing safe and efficient field operations. The person in this position will serve as captain of the Sadie Ann and will work in cooperation with the Sadie Ann Research Program Manager to deliver on-the-water education and research programs. The Sadie Ann is a 65-foot x 24-foot aluminum catamaran vessel with a diesel/electric hybrid engine system. It will typically operate in the nearshore areas of western Lake Superior, with the potential to sail on the Great Lakes. The Sadie Ann will be regulated under Title 46 CFR Subchapter T, Great Lakes, Exposed Waters (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-46/chapter-I/subchapter-T). The captain will be responsible for operational oversight of the vessel, including supervision of vessel crew, and the well-being of passengers, crew and program staff, as well as general maintenance, repair, and providing high levels of customer service.
