Researcher - Host Microbe Interactions (Torres Lab)

The Torres lab is interested in dissecting the complex interactions between pathogenic bacteria and the mammalian host. Our goal is to understand the basic principles of bacterial pathogenesis as well as to develop a platform for the discovery of targets that could be exploited for the generation of much-needed therapies. We are seeking a self-motivated and organized individual to fill a Researcher position in the laboratory of Dr. Victor J. Torres, the chair of the Department of Host-Microbe Interactions at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Responsibilities include assisting in general laboratory operations and conducting common experimental techniques that include bacterial culture, DNA purification, PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, protein purification, managing the murine colony, and isolation and culturing of primary human immune cells. The successful applicant should be interested in working in a collaborative environment, be able to learn techniques quickly and have good written, verbal, and computer skills. The ideal candidate will have: Degree in Biomedical or Physical Sciences. Hands-on laboratory experience and prior familiarity with bacterial culturing, immunology, and in vivo models (For Researcher level). Extensive hands-on laboratory experience is required and prior familiarity with bacterial culturing, tissue culture, and in vivo models (For Senior Research level). Preference will be given to candidates having previous experience working with bacteria and murine models. Job Responsibilities: Performs laboratory experiments independently using established techniques/protocols. Sets up protocols, troubleshoots experiments using new or modified laboratory techniques. Accurately records experimental procedures and data. Prepares and reports results/ data leading to posters, presentations, or publications. May provide guidance to entry-level employees. Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training: Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required. Minimum Experience: No experience required. Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
