Resident Advisor

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Older Females Program Resident Advisor (RA) provides supportive services to 20 single female-identified youth ages 21-24 at a shelter site located in the Bronx funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development. Reporting to the Program Coordinator of the shelter site, the RA is an energetic, creative, and diligent member of a team that includes case managers and specialty support staff. RAs will be expected to participate in training and implementation activities for evidence-based and other proven models that will be utilized.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 (Responsibilities to include but are not limited to the following)

Youth Engagement and Program Support 

Directly engages, supervises, and supports youth residing at the Older Females shelter site, providing support, motivation, and encouragement when needed.

Ensures that the site, including youth rooms, is clean and kept in a good and safe condition.

Assists youth in achieving the goals of shelter: assess and address any immediate trauma experienced by the young female identified youth seeking shelter and assists clients in obtaining their goals.

Welcomes the young female identified youth to the site and orients them to site expectations, CHNY’s mission and principles, and child protection policies and protocols.

Assists young females identified youth with preparation for the day. Ensures the young female identified youth are awake and out of bed, fed, and on their way to work, school or other activities in a timely manner.

Cooks, or assists in the cooking, of meals for the young female identified youth. Engages with them during mealtimes and works with the young female identified youth to facilitate post-meal clean up.

Provides support to Case Managers as needed, including distributing appointment slips, appointment follow up, collection and filing of paperwork, file maintenance, and file compliance.

Maintains records in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) computer system, and enters all required documentation timely.

Escorts young female identified youth to other agencies and services when necessary (e.g., hospitals, school visits) when feasible

Maintains healthy, supportive relationships with the young female identified youth, mindful of boundaries and mutual respect.

Leads and/or participates in recreational and holiday activities at the site and off-site trips.

Completes incident reports by the end of the shift, and submits to appropriate parties.

De-escalates crises; attends to emergencies following agency protocol.

Ensures safety by utilizing security training throughout their shifts including searching belongings and rooms.
