Job Summary:

Function in a supportive role to assist the nursing staff and residents. The Resident Care Aide will not provide any direct resident care. Resident Care Aide will attend paid training CNA class as available/assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Answer call lights and unit phones as directed. Distribute fresh water pitchers and trays to all residents. Make beds as needed. Accompany residents to MD appointments as assigned. Feed residents (after training in feeding techniques). Transport residents to/from activities, hairdresser, therapy, etc. Pass nourishments and document consumption. Distribute personal laundry (if not done by laundry staff). Clean dining room and dining appliances following meals. Pick up late trays and place in dining room. Deliver newspapers/ mail as directed. Re-stock supplies as needed. Clean/straighten resident rooms, closets, dresser drawers as directed. Label resident equipment as directed. Practice safe use of equipment, chemicals, tools, and utensils. Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, residents, volunteers, and families. Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, Springside at Seneca Hill, Inc. operations, and personnel. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):

Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of the aging process as it relates to health care. Knowledge of resident rights and abuse reporting regulations. Knowledge of proper infection control practices/policy. Knowledge of resident safety, standard precautions, basic principles of infection control, fire and emergency drills. Ability to learn and apply Seneca Hill Manor facility policy/ procedures as they pertain to specific duties.

Education and Experience:

Must be 18 years of age and have a desire/interest in working with the elderly. Must be able to function independently.

Working Conditions:

Exposed to infections, odors and peculiarities in the behavior of aged residents. Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling during the work day. Requires pushing beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 200 pounds with assistance. Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring residents who may weigh in excess of 200 pounds. Position requires training in feeding techniques (provided by Oswego Health). Requires the ability to utilize computers and standard office equipment. Ability to bend or kneel to perform cleaning tasks. Attends any mandatory training and In-Services. Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.

Pay Range; $15.70/hr

Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
