Resident CareGiver - Part Time

Position Scope: Provide personal care as is necessary to enable the residents to maintain good personal hygiene, carry out activities of daily living, to maintain in good health and to participate in activities of the facility .
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
+ High School Diploma
+ Experience with older adults desired.
+ Valid and clean New York State Driver’s’ License .
Responsibilities:
+ Assist residents with their personal needs and laundry.
+ Changes bed linens weekly, retrieve and stocks linens on a daily basis. Complete bed changes to be completed during the first week of every month.
+ Assists with bathing (if needed) especially helping resident in and out of the shower/tub.
+ Orients new residents and assists them in getting settled.
+ Completes symptom check sheet including taking temperature on all residents daily.
+ Monitors medial needs when residents are ill, i.e., take temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure. Reports to the Resident Care Coordinator or calls 911 when appropriate.
+ Reports and documents pertinent medical information to physician.
+ Reports changes of resident’s needs, any absences or any unusual circumstances to Resident Care Coordinator (Designee).
+ Takes a census of each residents on each shift and makes periodic rounds during the shift.
+ Completes a written report within 24 hours on any unusual incident and/or accidents and is expected to discern what constitutes “unusual”.
+ Gives report to oncoming shift and documents during the shift.
+ Weighs residents monthly and documents height on admission.
+ Transports and accompanies residents for medical services.
+ Assists resident with medications as ordered by physician, logs in all medications received from pharmacy and counts all narcotics each shift and sign off in narcotic book, signs MARs after passing medication.
+ Maintains housekeeping in lounges, collects and disposes of newspapers, empties trash baskets in public areas, keeps room neat and orderly, cleans up accidents/spills during evening and night shifts. Night companion cleans lounge refrigerator once a week.
+ Delivers food trays if needed and collect and returns trays to kitchen – monitors meal consumption.
+ Completes mandatory annual in-services and all other in-services as assigned.
+ Assists with meal service in the Dining Room, including but not limited to taking and recording temperatures of the food before service, reheating food that is not at proper temperature, cooking made to order eggs at breakfast, plating food, passing plates in the Dining Room to residents, all as needed.
+ Assists with maintaining cleanliness of the Dining Room and kitchen, including but not limited to busing tables, cleaning/sanitizing tables and kitchen work areas, cleaning up spills on the Dining Room/kitchen floor, sweeping/mopping, all as needed.
+ Assists with set up in Dining Room for meals, including but not limited to putting out table settings, setting out drinks, all as needed.
+ Attends annual Food Safety Training upon hire, annually and as needed.
Physical and Sensory Requirements: (With or without the aid of mechanical devices)
+ Appropriate professional attire as required by LCCN dress code.
+ Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
+ Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
+ Must possess leadership and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional staff.
+ Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to relate to residents based on the level at which they are currently functioning.
+ Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
+ Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
+ Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
+ Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of this position.
+ Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
+ Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff and support agencies.
+ Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
+ Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, angry people within the facility.
+ Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds.
+ Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
