Position Summary:
The Residential Assistant (RA) is responsible for the overall supervision and well-being of clients/residents living in Sanctuary shelters. The RA maintains structure and stability within the program while simultaneously providing a safe and nurturing environment for clients/residents. The RA works closely with the Residential Supervisor in facilitating life skills instruction and working towards clients/residents’ independence and self-sufficiency. The RA is also responsible for ensuring that the shelter is always 100% operational, which includes, but is not limited to the upkeep of cleanliness, maintenance of supplies and equipment, monitoring and reporting of any repairs and/or supplies needed to the Residential Supervisor. The RA is responsible for all duties and responsibilities herein as well as other duties as assigned by the Residential Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide a nurturing environment conducive to a “home-like” atmosphere according to the program and model appropriate behavior for clients/residents; Ensure the protection of clients/residents health and safety while in the shelter as well as in the community. (i.e. encourages hygienic practices – brushing their teeth, taking regular showers.); Guide active participation of clients/residents in daily life skills: (i.e. cooking, laundry and general cleaning). Monitor and/or prepare balanced meals utilizing the established menu plan; Monitor visitation of approved visitors; Provide general orientation of policies and regulations to all clients/residents; Follow the daily shelter schedule as directed by the Residential Supervisor; Provide input on policies and procedures necessary for effective operation of the shelters; Ensure the cleanliness of the shelter in accordance with licensing requirements; Ensure all company vehicles are properly inspected and mileage logs are completed before and after; Monitor clients/residents’ progress in meeting individual goals and report in weekly Case Staffing meetings; Adhere to the Residential Supervisor instructions to meet the transportation needs of clients/residents and shelter operations; Perform all required documentation including, but not limited to log book entries, DAPs, Progress Charts, Medication Checklists, Furlough/Outing checklist and liability forms, Incident Reports, Changeover sheet; Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation; and Perform any other duties as assigned.
