Job DescriptionReporting to the Clinical Service Manager, you are responsible for facilitating the daily operations of the General Surgery Unit. The Resource Nurse is a leadership role responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of patient care by: providing expert nursing care to patients/families ensuring that patient receive the right care in the right place at the right time.
Accountabilities:
Collaborate with the educator to promote ongoing learning and development of the nursing teamFoster inter-professional communication and relationships (mentoring/guiding)Educate and support the surgical team integrating, supporting and advancing nursing practice based on best practiceNetwork with physicians and the multidisciplinary teamHelp develop and implement program improvement and quality initiatives related to nursing careLiaise with the transitional care coordinator, access and flow leader and Admitting Department to coordinate the appropriate bed assignment as well as other members of the inter-professional team to ensure a coordinated approach to patient discharge and transferCollaborate with the inter-professional team, including Home and Community Care Support Services Central West, to utilize available resources in the most efficient and effective manner possible with the aim of promoting patient flow and a positive patient experienceWork with and maintain a therapeutic relationship with the physician team membersMaintain current knowledge of emergency preparedness protocols and procedures and appropriate responses to emergency codesLiaise with facilities and/or the access and flow coordinator to facilitate timely bed/room cleaning and porteringOther clinical and administrative related duties and task as assignedQualificationsCurrent registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of OntarioBachelor of Science in Nursing preferredMinimum three years recent experience in an inpatient surgical unit with exemplary clinical skills requiredMinimum two years recent leadership experience requiredCurrent BCLS certificationDemonstrated ability to mentor and coach staff at the bedside to support nursing interventions and to provide assistance and guidance in complex routine, urgent or emergency situationsRNAO and CACCN memberships preferredExcellent command of the English language (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skillsExcellent priority setting, organization and time management skillsDemonstrated commitment to continuing educationDemonstrated exemplary clinical practice/patientDemonstrated ability to lead and function as a member of a multidisciplinary teamDemonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills requiredDemonstrated excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skillsExcellent attendance and work recordMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationAbility to work and travel between all Osler sitesAdditional InformationDURATION: Approximately twelve (12) months or until the previous incumbent returns.

Salary:
Minimum: $43.19 per hour
Maximum: $60.12 per hour
