Job Summary: The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP), Sleep Disorder Center, provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Associate's Degree from a two year American Medical Association (AMA) Respiratory Therapy Program as specified by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Minimum one year of clinical experience in an American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accredited Sleep Disorders Center preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Assembly and troubleshooting patient/machine equipment; preventive maintenance; calibration of equipment. Must be proficient at scoring complete polysomnographic recordings in all age-specific groups. Works with others, contact with public, works alone and with others. Ability to perform algebraic calculations; ability to interpret data, critical thinking, ability to spell, read and comprehend, understand microprocessor equipment and  departmental and hospital information system, and verbally communicate accurately and clearly. Ability to hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license and Basic Life Support (BLS) required. If Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) ineligible, Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certificate required within eighteen months. If RRT eligible, RRT certificate required within twelve months or RPSGT certificate required within eighteen months. Procession of both RRT and RPSGT certificate preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
