The Student Therapist position is designed to allow students actively enrolled in an approved Respiratory Therapy program to gain “real world” experience. Students are required by the Alabama State for Respiratory Therapy to practice under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist. Therefore, students are not allowed to work on the shift without another licensed therapist present. Students are only allowed to perform procedures that they have been checked off on, or approved to perform. Students will not be assigned critical care areas until their senior year of the program, and must continue to work under the guidance of an experienced, licensed therapist. Patient assessment (breath sounds, heart rate, respiratory rate, work of breathing, etc) Aerosol administration Chest physiotherapy Oxygen delivery Pulse oximetry Must be acknowledged by the Alabama State Board as a Student. BLS required. ACLS/PALS/NRP preferred. ??????? Must be actively enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
