Summary:
Position is for Non-Licensed Respiratory Student currently enrolled in a Respiratory Care Program.
Gaining exposure to a hospital respiratory setting enhances the student’s awareness of the role and responsibilities of the Therapist position. The Respiratory Apprentice may shadow other licensed Respiratory Therapists to support and expand their knowledge of respiratory.
Responsibilities:
Ensuring that equipment, such as life support/mechanical ventilators etc. are decontaminated, processed, re-assembled, calibrated and operationally checked according to manufacturer specifications. Delivering, monitoring, maintaining, and providing safeguards on medical grade gases throughout the facility, including cylinders of various sizes and liquid oxygen systems. Performs adjustments and repairs on selected equipment in consultation with the Biomedical Department. Ensures that equipment and supplies are accessible, in good condition and of sufficient quantity to meet patient care needs.Specific skills also includes:
Equipment assembly, decontamination and calibration, as well as identifies and safely uses medical gases, and mechanical repair.Once the team member graduates from their RT program, he/she must acquire the RRT credential to transfer into a Respiratory Therapist position within six months of graduation date. Failure to obtain the RRT credential within six months from graduation will result in termination of employment as the team member would no longer qualify for the position. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled in a Respiratory Care Program
HS Graduate or Equivalent GED
