Job Summary: The Respiratory Care Assistant assembles, cleans, tests and inspects "Class III" respiratory therapy equipment and performs surface disinfection of departmental equipment as needed. Performs simple and moderately complex patient care procedures such as electrocardiograms to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Performs duties to assist the Special Procedures team with bronchoscopy duties. Is trained on the job to perform these duties as well as to stock departmental supplies. Records information and keeps appropriate records. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. No experience required.
Knowledge and Skills: Assemble and test equipment, calibration of equipment, assembles and tests various medical gases, repair equipment. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Licensures and Certifications: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) through the American Heart Association required.
