This position provides basic and advanced life support for critically ill/injured adult and pediatric patients during inter-facility transports as part of the AirMed transport team under the stresses of flight and potentially hazardous environmental conditions. The incumbent participates as an active member of the AirMed air transport team and is responsible for performing assigned duties safely and responsibly. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

**Responsibilities**
+ Provides and oversees direct patient care, assessing and evaluating actual or potential health problems before, during and after transports.
+ Transports, lifts, and carries various weights and sizes of equipment and patients during transports.
+ Assists with locating and establishing a landing zone for the aircraft.
+ Transfers patients and equipment from aircraft, carts and gurneys during the loading and unloading phases of transport operations.
+ Provides written and computerized documentation for all transports.
+ Helps in the training and assists new staff either in the hospital, at the scene or at a referral/receiving facility.
+ Restocks equipment, medications and aircraft as needed.
+ Plans, evaluates and implements interventions for solving patient care problems according to the needs of the organization, AirMed, and the Respiratory Therapy department.
+ Assists in cleaning the aircraft as needed.
+ Transports controlled substances as required.
**Knowledge / Skills / Abilities**
+ Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions outlined above.
+ Ability to provide care to the population served.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
+ Demonstrated basic understanding of altitude physiology and how it relates to the care of patients before, during and after transport.
+ Ability to adhere to the AirMed Code of Conduct at all times.
+ Demonstrated professional behavior at all times and in all circumstances that are job related.
+ Ability to function professionally as an ambassador to the University Hospital and AirMed and as the initial point of contact for referral facilities and all involved staff.
+ Demonstrated flexibility for day, evening, night, weekend, holiday and any other shifts that are needed to cover all transports and on call shifts.
+ Ability to attend and maintain any mandatory staff, safety, skills, survival and other meetings as required.
+ Ability to participate as a member of an AirMed committee.
+ Ability to maintain a weight of less than 215 lbs. while fully dressed for flight duty.
**Qualifications**
**Qualifications** **Required**
+ Five (5) years of working experience as a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioners in critical care transport experience, respective specialty ICU or EMS.
+ Maintenance of a weight of less than 215 lbs. while fully dressed for flight duty.
+ Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) or Burn Education equivalent within one (1) year of hire.
+ Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or Advanced Trauma course equivalent within one (1) year of hire.
+ Specialty certification within one (1) year of hire.
+ Maintenance of continuing education related to transport-specific CAMTS requirements (Advanced-airway, Altitude physiology, transport equipment, highway scene safety, EMS, multi-trauma, pediatric critical care, and quality management).
**Licenses Required**
+ Current RQI Healthcare Provider ALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The ALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire
+ Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with the National Board of Respiratory Care
+ Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
+ Current licensure to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Utah.
+ License to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Wyoming within 90 days of hire.
+ Current Neonatal Resuscitation Certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
+ Current RQI Healthcare Provider PALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The PALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

+ Previous Air Medical and pediatric experience.
+ ACCS or NPS certifications.
