Respiratory Care Practitioner II
We are so glad you are interested in joining Sutter Health! **Organization:** MHLB-Memorial Hospital Los Banos **Position Overview:** Performs therapeutic, diagnostic, and emergency respiratory care procedures and provides assessment, treatment, care and evaluation for patients with respiratory insufficiencies or abnormalities. Exercises sound judgment, and developed clinical skills to provide input to and implement the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis and physician orders in a timely manner. Gains confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers through competent patient assessment, attentive monitoring and care, and effective communication. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. Management reserves the right to revise the job description or require that other tasks be performed when the circumstances of the job change (for example, emergencies, staff changes, workload, or technical development)._ **JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:** RESPIRATORY SERVICES: • Performs respiratory care procedures on a routine and emergency basis for all age groups ranging from neonate to geriatric according to policy and procedure. • Assesses patient prior to delivering prescribed therapy and provides recommendations to physician for appropriate adjustments in the type and frequency of treatment as needed • Provides input to and implements the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis and physician orders. • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Performs all respiratory care modalities. • Administers medications and treatments and evaluates patient outcomes. • Educates the patient and family about prevention and management of cardiopulmonary diseases; provides information about community support groups and other available programs. • Responds to emergency resuscitation team calls: Code Blue/Rapid Response • Provides routine diagnostic modalities. SAFETY: • Participates in quality improvement processes, including updating and revision of safety and procedure manuals and interdisciplinary projects. • Sets up and removes equipment and supplies, ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately. Maintains established levels of supplies. • Provides for proper cleaning and sterilization of all respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe patient care. • Inspects and calibrates equipment accordingly for proper operation and records the quality control (QC) results, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor. • Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment. CLERICAL: • Performs general clerical tasks, such maintaining statistics, writing patient charges; updating patient appointments; or retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records (EHR). • Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to patient, including all therapy performed in medical and departmental records as required. COMPLIANCE: • Performs quality respiratory and non-invasive cardiac care in compliance with scope of practice, department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies. • Maintains strictest confidence of all patients protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure. • Prepares, administers, and documents medications and treatments in accordance with state and federal regulations. • Retains certification and completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements. **EDUCATION:** Other: Graduate of a two-year respiratory care program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) **CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:** CA Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Provider if required at the entity Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) within 90 days BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider **TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:** 2 years of recent relevant experience. **SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:** Knowledge of respiratory therapy principles, procedures, views, and equipment, including some experience responding to traumas and various hospital emergencies. Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Capable of performing routine or emergency respiratory care as well as a basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people. Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline. General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), electronic health records (EHR), and EPIC. Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
