Respiratory Clinical Coordinator

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Under the manager’s oversight, implements operational programs and procedures within the Respiratory Care Department.  Coordinates and ensures provision of education required by JCAHO and state licensure. 

Oversees Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Diagnostic services of the Medical Center in absence of Respiratory Care Manager.  Performs therapies and procedures to maintain clinical practice and assessment skills on general floors and critical care units.  Serves as a consultant and educator to nursing staff as needed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

License to practice respiratory care from the Idaho Board of Medicine required. Registered as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy, Education, or Health Care related field required. Minimum of two years of experience as a supervisor required.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk. Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable). Demonstrates ability to recognize changes in patient’s condition and recommends appropriate changes in patient’s therapy. Revenue management: ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients. Identifies and develops continuing education and orientation programs to meet the needs of the RT Department in compliance with JCAHO and state licensure.

Maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures directly related to Respiratory Care under the direction of the department manager. Participates in all aspects of performance management. Assists in budgeting, planning, and developing programs in Respiratory Care. Develops and presents clinical in-services at least three times per year.  Helps coordinate and teach new equipment and drug in-services and competencies. Develops, coordinates and performs the annual employee competencies assigned by the manager. Maintains employee competency records in employee files.
