For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities. *JOB SUMMARY* Under the direction of the Supervisor, responsible for performing a wide variety of duties to assist in the delivery of Respiratory Care to patients supporting a safe and positive patient experience. Includes patient screening paperwork, assisting with patient transport, maintaining supplies, and providing general assistance to patients and staff. *Key areas of responsibility * * Maintains a thorough knowledge of the operational requirements pertaining to established respiratory therapy protocols to ensure that patient preps, orders, pre-certs, consents, questionnaires, histories and protocol sheets are completed accurately to ensure quality procedure outcomes. * Upholds infection prevention standards. * Provides necessary patient information to Respiratory Therapy staff. * Assists Respiratory Therapists in the day to day operations of the department by maintaining supply levels in rooms, and monitoring equipment to reduce downtime. * Ensures patient area is in order and restocks supplies as necessary. * Assists in maintaining a clinical environment that is clean, safe and free from clutter. * Assists patients and staff during procedures by helping answer routine patient questions. * Observes patients and reports changes in patient condition to appropriate department staff. * Coordinates patient procedure times with appropriate staff. * Assists with filing, inputting patient information into system, collecting and filing documents and patient files, copying/printing, and other related duties as required. * Assists with transportation of patients. *Qualifications:* *Education: *High School Diploma or equivalent. Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from an AMA approved Respiratory program preferred. *Experience: *Previous clerical or patient care experience in a clinical setting preferred. *Licensure, Certification, Registration: *BLS and ACLS certification required.
