The University of Miami/UHealth has exciting opportunities for Respiratory Therapists. The Respiratory Therapist assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. An employee in this position collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. The Respiratory Therapist also measures the lung capacity of patients to determine if there are any impairments. Conducts tests, such as electrocardiograms, stress testing, and lung capacity tests to evaluate patients' cardiopulmonary functions. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and instructs patients on how to perform breathing exercises. Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Reads prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient’s condition. Determines requirements for treatment such as type, method, and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medications and dosages. Educates patients and their families about their conditions and teaches appropriate disease management techniques. Inspects, cleans, tests, and maintains respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Licensing/Certifications:

Valid Florida State License at the RRT Level, BLS and ACLS certifications required

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year relevant work experience
