Under general supervision, administers respiratory care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities. Trains and acts as a resource for respiratory department technicians.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum EducationGraduate of an accredited respiratory therapy training program.
Associates degree in respiratory care from an accredited program.
Required LicensesRespiratory Therapist
Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist by the Mississippi State Board of HealthACLSBLS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Evaluate patient and render appropriate care utilizing departmental policies/procedures and/or patient driven protocol
Adjust therapy in response to patient needs and/or physician direction and orders
Evaluate patients through interview with patient or family obtaining oral history, review of chart and correct patient identification
Demonstrates correct usage of equipment and follows correct procedure for reporting equipment malfunctions
Monitors patient during procedure and demonstrates/verbalizes appropriate response during emergencies
Maximizes patient's comfort and safety while providing effective communication
Prepares documentation that provides complete and accurate information to provide quality patient care
Demonstrates correct usage of PPE and follows infection control policies and procedures
Serves as a preceptor in training students
Provides effective communication with physicians
Adjust approach and testing based on patient population
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reads journals and reference books to maintain continuing education.
Attends department meetings.
