Respiratory Therapist - Toledo Pulm & Sleep - Part Time - Days

Position Summary

Conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures according to department competency standards.

 

Accountabilities

1. General care: Medication nebulizers, IPPB, Metered dose inhalers, incentive spirometry, postural drainage and percussion, chest physical assessment, patient identification, oxygen therapy, TDP’s bedside screens.
Acute care: Mechanical ventilators, extubations, intubations, tracheotomy changes, arterial punctures, arterial lines, IABP, Cardiac outputs.
Emergency care: CPT (per policy & AHA standards) patient stabilization, transport.
2.  Select, assemble, check and trouble shoot the following equipment:
⦁    Gas administration, metering and analyzing services.
⦁    All patient care equipment, including resuscitation equipment.
⦁    Mechanical devices to include infant/adult ventilators and monitors.
3.  Be able to perform procedures for equipment disinfecting and sterilization, and quality control for blood gas and/or pulmonary function equipment.
4.  Be able to assist the physician performing bronchoscopy, tracheostomy, thoracentesis, invasive monitoring and/or thoracotomy, if needed. 
5.  Assist with formal and informal respiratory care education, to include patient instruction at the bedside, in-service development and training of departmental and non-departmental staff, and clinical and/or classroom instruction of respiratory care students.
6.  Therapist Driven Protocols to include:
⦁    Subjective patient assessment: Patient and/or family interview, review of existing data in patient record.
⦁    Objective patient assessment: Collection and/or evaluation of pertinent clinical data relative to the respiratory care required of the patient.
⦁    Determined the appropriateness of prescribed therapy, identify goals of therapy for a given pathophysiologic state, explain planned therapy and goals to the patient and/or family and monitors patient response to therapy and modifies if necessary.
⦁    Evaluates achievement of identified goals, records results of therapy as required by hospital and department policy and regulating agencies, and communicates pertinent information to appropriate members of the health care team.
7.  Participate in “on-call” assignments as necessary.
8.  Fully and completely understands the procedure manuals of the area (s) assigned and is able to independently function in those areas.
9.  Other Duties as assigned.
