Summary
The Respiratory Therapy Assistant is an unlicensed staff member who is currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Care Program. The Respiratory Therapy Student works under the supervision of licensed Respiratory Therapist to assist with both with administrative and clinical duties within the scope of an unlicensed staff member.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
+ Supply Maintenance
+ Maintain cleanliness and organization of supplies in the main and satellite respiratory supply rooms/areas
+ Monitor and assist with data collection for departmental inventory
+ Restocks respiratory supplies throughout the hospital
+ Equipment Maintenance
+ Clean equipment following hospital policy
+ Assist with preparing and setting up assigned equipment
+ Assist with monitoring and exchanging empty oxygen tanks
+ Audit inpatient areas for emergency equipment
+ Patient Care
+ Assist the licensed Respiratory Therapist with trach dressing or tie changes
+ Perform chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation
+ Assist with patient transport
+ Assist with patient repositioning using proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
+ Assist with chart audits and other administrative work under the supervision of the Respiratory Leadership

Reports to: Operations Manager, Respiratory Therapy
Supervises: None

Education, Experience, & Certifications
Minimum Required Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Additional Qualifications:
Current Student enrolled in the final 3 semesters of an accredited Respiratory Care program. Must remain in good standing in the program until graduation.
Required certification: Must have current BLS.
