Job Description
We are seeking a Restraints Engineer to lead the in-house design and release of safety restraint components. This role involves interacting with all stages of part development from initial CAD drawings to studio through surface development, prototyping, testing, feasibility, tooling, manufacturing, and launch. The successful candidate will lead the development and execution of product verification plans and final engineering sign-off, ensuring the system meets all corporate requirements and specifications. This is a meeting-heavy job that requires strong interaction with various internal teams and suppliers.
ResponsibilitiesInteract with all stages of part development from initial CAD drawings to final launch.Lead development and execution of product verification plans and final engineering sign-off.Ensure system meets all corporate requirements and specifications.Manage timelines for the entire 3-year product development lifecycle.Travel to supplier manufacturing sites and assembly locations to assist in initial builds.Collaborate with testing and validation engineering to ensure components meet requirements.Be responsible for specific components such as rear seatbelts or side airbags.Participate in prototyping and testing stages.Interact with internal teams including Program Management, Costing, Tooling, Systems, and Vehicle Integration.Balance pressures from internal and external groups regarding cost, weight, functionality, manufacturability, and sizing.Essential Skills5+ years as a Design & Release engineer.Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.Experience with restraints, active safety, seat belts, and airbags.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in restraints design.Proficiency in Catia and Teamcenter.Knowledge of tooling.Work Environment
This position is fully onsite at a large engineering center in Dearborn, featuring a three-story building with a quad short cube setup for engineers, tall cubes for supervisors, and offices for managers and above. Amenities include a large cafeteria, barber shop, sub shop, weekly shoe shine, café, vending areas, and dry cleaning. The building is well heated and air-conditioned with natural light. Core hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with flexible hours from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Overtime is uncommon, and the dress code is business casual with the option to wear a shirt and tie.
