Job Overview:
The Tailor’s primary responsibility is to sew garments, either to repair or to alter to customer’s tastes and to operate on sewing equipment.
Essential Functions:
Perform basic alterations on garments including, but not limited to, sleeves, backs, sides, collars and bodices, inserting shoulder pads, altering waists, taking out hems to lengthen, shortening lengths, and adding cuffs Do minor repairs to garments by replacing buttons, mending seams, and replacing hem Maintain a professional attitude with sincerity and enthusiasm reflecting Macy’s commitment to our customer-the most important person in our stores Provide an exceptional customer experience by ensuring the customer is always the priority Give advice regarding the fit and care of garments to customers Write up alterations tickets recording the details of the alterations being made on the garment Press and steam garments before returning to customer Be knowledgeable of styles, fits, and fabrics to better serve the customer Maintain records for alterations department Inform team leader/ manager of supply needs that arise in daily operations. To carry out the more complex customer fittings as needed. Perform other duties as necessary Follows shortage programs and procedures Perform these functions in an efficient manner, as directed by the Supervisor Regular, dependable attendance and punctualityQualifications and Competencies:
High School degree or equivalent. Prior experience a plus. Effective written and verbal skills, ability to interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Able to use a calculator. Self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team and must have good time management skills. Must be able to operate and perform basic maintenance on sewing machines. Ability to collaborate and function as a member of a team. Must possess a strong sense of urgency. Should be comfortable with the use of computers. Flexible with scheduling and available to work retail hours, which may include day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays based on department and store/company needs.Physical Requirements:
This position involves constant moving and standing. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours. May involve reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, color vision and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Involves close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job duties, including handheld electronic equipment. Frequently lift/move up to 50lbs.
