Retail Pharmacy Technician – Kenner

Under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, the Retail Pharmacy Technician – Certified accurately processes orders and delivers medications for to designated areas; refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication charges, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy; enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary; reviews physician’s orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system; identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.e. allergies, height, weight) when needed.

Full Time – Days

Education 

Required – High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Preferred – 1 year hospital experience

Certifications

Required – 1 year of college or completion of a para-professional pharmacy training program, or Certified Pharmacy Technician Licensure or National Certification

Preferred – Certified Pharmacy Technician License

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Job Duties

Ensures customer service and teamwork while conducting responsibilities . Fills medication orders, charges/credits all medication, stocks, delivers, and inspects assigned areas. Performs bedside delivery of medication. Maintains competency in professional growth and responsibilities. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. Other related duties as required.
