Retro Commissioning Manager - Facilities Management and Campus Services (FMCS)

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Facilities Management Services is searching for a Retro Commissioning Manager to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. Under the direction of the University Engineer, the Retro-Commissioning Manager leads delivery of retro-commissioning services for existing buildings, with in-depth knowledge of HVAC systems and energy efficiency programs. Using a whole-building systems approach, retro-commissioning identifies corrective actions and operational improvements that will increase occupant comfort, save energy, and provide cost savings. The position is responsible for the university’s ongoing Fault Detection and Diagnostics program and data historian (AVEVA OSIsoft PI).

Job Functions/Core responsibilities:

Analysis of mechanical building systems towards identifying projects to increase comfort, save energy, and provide cost savings.

Manages university’s Fault Detection and Diagnostics contract (Clockworks) with responsibility for performance reporting, task tracking, and savings quantification.

Utilizes building automation systems for diagnostic work, including coordination and communication with third-party vendor support team.

Leads projects resulting from recommendations including requirements definition through deployment. Coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring projects remain within scope, schedule, and defined budgets. Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate stakeholders.

Plans and executes building energy audits using established industry standards, including design review, site investigations, data collection and analysis, and reporting.  Works with Utilities Analyst to evaluate utility billings and meter data.

Co-manages data historian (AVEVA OSIsoft PI) for data collection and visualization and adds new systems based on a defined asset framework.

Assist in the implementation of new standards and guidelines for operations, design, and construction to drive future efficiency through written policies and procedures.

Active engagement with staff operating building systems. Promote training and awareness to encourage best practices and behaviors.

Participates in new capital project commissioning to sustain energy efficient building performance and transition from design through construction to operations. Adds new buildings into the Fault Detection and Diagnostics for continuous commissioning.

Respond promptly by phone or in person as appropriate to emergency situations and therefore must be available 24/7 or as required.

Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to understand and follow strategic direction from divisional leadership.

Able to travel across campus for meetings and utility related work

Due to the critical nature of the role, the Energy Manager must be on-site during regular working hours, major projects and emergency events.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree – preferably in engineering, business, management or equivalent related field experience desired.

Five years of experience in commissioning or building automation systems preferred

Experience with Automated Logic or Johnson Controls building automation systems preferred

Experience with data historian AVEVA OSIsoft PI preferred

Professional certifications in commissioning and/or controls certifications, such as Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), or similar certification preferred

ASHRAE level I, II, III energy auditing for facilities preferred

Experience with creating, reviewing, editing, programming sequence of operations

Ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization regarding a variety of relevant issues.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, goals and objectives.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours) position based in Pittsburgh, PA
