Job Description

Skyworks Irvine, CA design center has leading R&D and product development capabilities. When you join our team in Irvine, you’ll join a uniquely collaborative, multi-discipline engineering community that supports each other to create cutting-edge chipsets for cell phones. The Module Design/Validation Co-op should have knowledge of semiconductors, analog circuits, RF design fundamentals, wireless systems, and introductory electromagnetics.  The candidate should understand basic RF module building blocks like LNA, PA, switches, filters, inductors, etc.  Understanding design parameters like gain, noise, non-linearity, S-parameters, stability, etc. is required.

 

Exposure to a lab testing setup and environment including commonly used test equipment like network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, frequency generator, and noise figure meter will be useful to perform the required job. The Co-op should have used module design tools like HFSS, ADS and layout tools like Allegro. Use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required to perform job duties successfully. The position requires good communication and presentation skills.

 

The candidate will work with a mentor and have the following job responsibilities:

 1. Tuning RF front-end modules in the lab

 2. Impedance matching using Smith chart

 3. Evaluating RF parameters like IP3, P1dB, NF, return loss, etc

 4. Validating performance across supply, temperature and frequency

 5. Creating 3D models in HFSS and simulating S Parameter files in ADS

 6. Creating compliance matrices against spec, plotting results and presenting results summary

 

Job Requirements:

Candidate must be currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering (or related) B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program.

Must be able to commit preferably to an onsite Co-op term of January - June 2025.

The typical pay range for an Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $26.00 - $47.50 per hour and for a Non-Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $22.50 - $42.00 per hour. Starting pay will depend on level of education, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S.
