Job DescriptionThe position involves rigging materials to lift, move, and position them onto ships or around the yard. Responsibilities include conveying instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers, locating and loading/unloading materials and equipment, and testing and installing rigging equipment. The candidate must control the movement of heavy equipment through narrow spaces and select appropriate rigging tools according to the load's weight and size.ResponsibilitiesRig materials to lift, move, and position them onto ships or around the yard.Convey instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals, loud speaker, or telephone.Locate, load/unload materials and equipment on and off ships and in and out of the yard.Test and install rigging equipment such as cargo booms, elevators, boat davits, and portable davits.Control the movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, braces, and cushions according to the weight, distribution, and size of the load to be moved.Set up tools and equipment at the job site and put equipment away when finished.Handle winches, grip hoists, pulleys, cables, ropes, mooring lines, and other equipment.Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, or around obstacles using multi-point suspension techniques.Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and materials.Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material, select cables, spreader bars, plate clamps, and shackles according to the weight and size of the load to be moved.Attach shackle and cable assemblies to structural components or modules and to the crane hook.Give directions to the Mobile Equipment Operator to ensure the safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals or radio.Essential Skills4+ years rigging experience, ideally in a shipyard environment with loft rigging specialization.Knowledgeable in crane rigging, inside rigging, loft rigging, or bull rigging.Proficient and experienced in performing crane signal/hook tendering.Experienced with chain falls, comealongs, slings, straps, spreader bars, cables, ropes, and hoisting.Competent in using and understanding worksite signals and the operations and limitations of the equipment, including crane dynamics involved in swinging, raising, lowering, and stopping loads and in boom deflection from hoisting loads.Additional Skills & QualificationsReliability and availability to work 5-6 days a week.Work EnvironmentWork will be performed at NASNI (North Island, Coronado) aboard various ships. The environment is dynamic and involves working with heavy equipment, requiring adherence to safety standards and proper use of rigging tools.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of National City, California.Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00
