Risk Management Specialist
Position Description:
The Risk Management Specialist provides consistent and systematic risk and change management methodologies to support the Health and Safety Department, with the goal of fostering a strong risk management culture across the mine. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining systems for the identification, analysis, and management of risks and opportunities at Hemlo. The Specialist drives risk management processes through team-based assessments and the evaluation of individual workplace practices, while also training and mentoring others in risk management.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate, review, and follow up on the Risk Register, Legal Obligations Register, Management of Change (MOC) processes, and Field Risk Assessments (FRA), ensuring consistent policy and procedure development, review, and distribution. Provide training and guidance to all personnel on risk management processes, policies, procedures, Risk Registers, Legal Obligations Registers, MOCs, and FRAs. Develop and manage processes for Risk Management, Legal Obligations, Operational Controls, and Procedure Programs in alignment with Hemlo’s Safety and Health (S&H) Management System. Create and maintain a site Risk Register to systematically track and mitigate risks. Provide leadership, promote risk awareness, and serve as a resource on safety and health matters for all Barrick Hemlo employees and contractors. Audit the effectiveness of corrective actions resulting from the application of risk assessment tools. Conduct specialized training for supervisors, including programs such as Train the Trainer, Due Diligence, Risk Management, and Visual Leadership Inspections. Facilitate risk workshops, generate reports, and communicate risk management status and mitigation plans. Deliver presentations to large groups on various risk management topics. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Safety and Health Industry (preferred). Supervisory experience (preferred). Training experience (preferred). Demonstrated safety leadership and an excellent safety record (required). Strong communication skills and proficiency in computer programs, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS Visio, and MS SharePoint, with proven problem-solving abilities (required). Ability to perform the essential functions of this position (required).
