Risk Management & Underwriting Summer Internship Program

As part of our internship program, you will directly impact our business on a daily basis by protecting the company's sound financial position and enabling us to meet our financial commitments to our clients.     

What you’ll do: 

Our Risk Management & Underwriting Leadership Development Program (RULDP) is looking for motivated individuals to join us in the 10-week RULDP Explore Summer Internship Program. The internship is designed to further develop analytical skills and business acumen in a dynamic and flexible work environment. With a strong focus on providing, you with the experience of being a full-time employee, our internship is a great way to assess whether the underwriting profession and The Cigna Group are a good fit for you. RULDP Explore Internship offerings: 

Real Work: you will be assigned underwriting responsibilities to make direct contributions to our underwriting goals, as well as an intern project that will challenge your problem-solving and innovation skills. 

Dedicated Training: We will provide you with the foundational underwriting knowledge you need to be successful within the internship program. then Real Work: you will be assigned underwriting responsibilities to make real, direct contributions to our underwriting goals through live casework

Community: you will have the opportunity for visibility with senior management as well as one-on-one learning with underwriting professionals, who will share their knowledge, experience and assume roles as individual coaches and mentors. 

Speaker Series: you and your fellow interns will be exposed to a variety of lectures and presentations given by members of the community. 

Compensation: earn a highly competitive hourly rate in addition to gaining valuable work experience. 

 

What you need to do the job: 

Ideal candidates will be progressing toward a bachelor's degree and have completed 3 years in a preferred major and/or minors including Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, and Business  

Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher  

Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills 

High comfort level with math/numbers 

Excellent oral and written communication skills 

Proficiency with Microsoft office software, especially Microsoft Word and Excel

An interest in pursuing a career in underwriting 

Customer-centric mindset 

Additional Information:

Location: Hybrid in Chattanooga TN; or Scottsdale, AZ. A hybrid position means that you will be expected to work in-person at your assigned office location 3 days a week with flexibility to work at home for balance of time.

Timeline: Our recruitment process consists of several rounds including a recruiter phone screen and 2 rounds of interviews.

Start Date: May 19th, 2025 

Market Range: For this position, we anticipate offering an hourly rate of $24/hr depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location. 

Work Authorization: One goal of this internship program is to prepare and identify qualified candidates for roles with Cigna post-graduation. Therefore, this temporary internship is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa support including H-1B, CPT/OPT/STEM, etc., now or in the future.


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
