Role Overview:
This role focuses on comprehensive financial and operational risk management, including the monitoring and escalation of credit, market, and collateral exposures across various business activities. It involves setting and managing trading and clearing limits, ensuring proactive risk identification and resolution in collaboration with internal stakeholders. The role also supports strategic and operational risk assessment, partnering with business units to evaluate controls, manage emerging risks, and support decision-making processes. Additionally, it oversees risk reporting and contributes to governance by preparing and presenting key risk insights to regional committees.
Role Responsibilities:
Financial Risk Management
Managing the monitoring of credit exposures to the Group’s cash on deposit, invoiced brokerage receivables and trade exposure to its matched principal broking activity. Managing investigation and appropriate escalation of any credit risk breaches, ensuring that issues are identified on a proactive basis with appropriate escalation to internal stakeholders.Management of matched principal broking limits, working closely with the business to re-allocate where necessary to enable business flow but maintain risk exposures within appetite. This includes close cooperation with the Client Lifecycle Management Team, which will derive those limits and pass them to Exposure Management to manage. Manage the monitoring of the Group’s potential margin call and collateral call exposure in real time. Provide escalations on a proactive basis when appetite levels are breached and ensure actions are taken by the relevant internal stakeholders to reduce risk to the Group. Manage the exchange-traded limit-setting process by liaising with business units and the Group’s General Clearing Members. Actively monitor any market risk positions that should arise (e.g. broker error), ensuring the risk exposure is mitigated in a timely manner and escalation is managed appropriately. As the FRM contact in the region, provide SME input in regards to exposure management for the region’s stakeholders as needed.Operational Risk Management
Collaborate with the business to identify and assess its material risks from business as usual activity, emerging risks, strategic and change initiatives, etc., ensuring they are understood as part of commercial and decision-making activity.Work with the business to ensure its end-to-end risk profile is managed actively and appropriately and in a commercial manner. Partner with the business to evaluate the adequacy of its control and policy framework in mitigating the risks that are inherent to its risk profile and leverage expertise to challenge the business’s logic/assumptions to ensure controls are adequate and effective.Support the business in monitoring its end-to-end risk profile. This includes ensuring appropriate MI, analysis and commentary are produced. Take part in regular engagement and/or management meetings to provide an independent second line view of the business’s risk profile.Support the business in undertaking immediate actions to mitigate or contain significant events and ensure those events are escalated to the appropriate level of management, and ensure that risk matters arising on a day-to-day basis are managed in accordance with risk framework requirements.Support the business as it undertakes risk assessment activity (e.g. Risk and Control Self-Assessment, Top-Down Risk Assessment, Scenario Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, etc.) and leverage expertise to challenge the business’s logic/assumptions to ensure the assessments are thorough and complete.Strategic Risk & Change Management
Partner with the business to identify, assess, and manage risks that could potentially hinder the achievement of its long-term strategic objectives. Help the business identify and assess risks regarding strategic initiatives (e.g. M&A, new product development, new business ventures, etc.,) and the potential impact on the business’s risk profile. This includes the financial and operational risks that could impact the success of the initiative, ensuring the business has all necessary information to make informed decisions and ensure a smooth execution.Review new business requests (as part of the Change Management Process) to ensure there is a complete and accurate understanding of the initiative and its risk profile, and that appropriate actions are taken by the business and support functions to mitigate/manage any risks arising from new business activity.Risk Reporting
Work with the Risk Function services team to ensure relevant reports are designed and developed regarding financial risk and operational risk exposures, and distributed in a time appropriate manner (i.e. daily/weekly/monthly reporting, governance committees, board-related meeting packs, etc.). Develop and present relevant risk-related material at regional committees and other associated governance forums.Administrative
Work closely with the UK/EMEA and Americas FRM teams to ensure consistent management and regional handover of FRM-related processes and responsibilities.Manage project-related tasks affecting areas of responsibility, including system migrations, technology changes or interactions with external vendors. Act as the regional FRM control operator for assigned controls and participate in the annual control attestation process. Provide evidence for the effectiveness of controls and plan and manage the remediation of any ineffective controls.Experience / Competences
