As a central part of the UK Legal entity, the Risk Management team is responsible for the independent identification, assessment, management and mitigation of business risk across the legal entity. As such the team needs to understand the relationships and dynamics between each business area and provide a robust, value-added programme.
The Position
The Risk Manager will support the Chief Risk Officer in the ownership and execution of the risk management framework and associated policies, procedures, tools and techniques for the business to assess and manage their risk for the UK regulated entity. The role holder will provide independent oversight and challenge of the business risk profile for the UK regulated entity.
Key responsibilities include:
Assist with the overall design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Risk Management Framework, including operational risk, credit risk, liquidity risk, market risk, conduct risk and reputational risk and associated policies and procedures
Assess, mitigate, monitor, measure and report on risks impacting on the business
Support the business and functions to effectively demonstrate effective management of risks
Provide SME review of key risk & incident metrics
Help to promote a strong risk culture within the firm, including educating and training staff on potential risk and the techniques used to mitigate such risk
Support the CRO in reporting relevant information to the Board.
Assist with the design and implementation of a risk training programme for the UK regulated entity
Continuously collaborate with the US based Group Enterprise risk team & functions
Represent the Risk function internally and externally at committees, forums and working groups and engage in frequent interaction with business and functional stakeholders
Fulfil change program duties as and when required
Your risk responsibilities include:
Maintaining a good understanding of applicable policies, procedures, risk appetites and tolerances
To consider current and potential risks when making or informing business decisions
The accurate and timely escalation and recording of incidents associated to relevant risks
Performing regular assessments of your risks and controls

Employees will maintain a good understanding of applicable policies, procedures, risk appetites and tolerance relevant to their function and or business unit, and are expected to consider current and potential risks when making or informing business decisions. Employees are responsible for the accurate and timely escalation and recording of incidents associated to relevant risks. In addition, employees are responsible for completing all required Risk Management training.
The Individual
The successful candidate will possess very strong written and oral communication skills. Whilst needing to be a technically astute, experienced Risk Manager, this role requires an individual who can convert technical information into easily comprehensible data for business colleagues and key stakeholders.
Candidates will demonstrate a mature and credible approach to the corporate environment, whilst providing a depth of business acumen accompanied by sound common sense and an approachable nature.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the below criteria:
Substantial experience of UK risk management within regulated financial services organisations encompassing strong experience within Liquidity, Credit, Market and Operational Risk
Experience in design and implementation of effective risk frameworks
The proven ability to successfully implement and embed the risk framework and risk culture
Experience of working at a senior level within financial services organisations, leading and influencing senior management meetings and committees.
Knowledge of both UK and US regulatory frameworks with the ability to work effectively with the US headquartered Group
Strong stakeholder management skills and the proven ability to influence at a senior level to build effective working relationships
Experience in team leadership with the ability to identify, hire, develop and retain risk talent
A Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a related field e.g. risk, finance, accounting etc (or equivalent). Further relevant education beyond a bachelors eg Masters will be preferred
Strong IT skills including VBA and SQL
Demonstrates the highest level of integrity in all matters
Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively with staff and external parties including the regulator. Report writing and presentational skills
