Risk & Resilience Engineering Intern (Available June 2025)

The opportunity

•       Undertake analyses using engineering first principles and probabilistic approaches to solve our clients' most difficult challenges in the built environment.

•       Support qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for one or more hazards (earthquakes, flood, sea level rise, wildfire, wind, heat, climate change, etc.).

•       Support the development of risk mitigation, climate adaptation, and resilience strategies for buildings and infrastructure projects as well as for cities and communities. 

•       Work on defined tasks under the close supervision of a senior engineer.

•       Support the development of project deliverables including reporting, enabling digital platforms, and communicating findings to clients and stakeholders. 

 

We encourage candidates who have interest/aptitude in any of the following:

·       Seismic engineering, including performance-based assessment philosophies.

·       Wind engineering and extreme environmental loading.

·       Climate science, climate change models for physical climate risk impact analysis, and/or climate downscaling.

·       Risk and resilience assessment and design across multiple natural hazards.

·       Engineering risk mitigation, climate adaptation, resiliency strategies for buildings and infrastructure

•       Pursuing Bachelor/MS/Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Climate Science, or similar.

•       Interest in understanding climate change and natural hazard risks and improving the resilience of assets in the built environment. 

•       Basic understanding of computer programming and coding experience.

•       Coursework in probability and statistics, or data science preferred

•       Coursework on natural hazard engineering such as earthquake, wind etc. preferred

•       Experience with structural analysis or climate physical risk analysis, GIS, and/or risk assessment software and tools preferred

•       Proficiency in computer programming preferred

San Francisco Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in San Francisco is $26 to $37 per hour. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco, CA will differ.   

Flexible Working - We believe that flexible arrangements create a more inclusive way of working that supports our diversity and the wellbeing of our people. Options for alternative schedules and the ability to work outside of the office for a portion of your workweek are available.
